In the past, elopement was considered secretive, impulsive, and even rude to the couple’s friends and family, but recently public service and low-key elopement ceremonies (and of course, wedding elopement dresses) are increasingly popular, and not just because of ongoing social distancing measures prompted by the pandemic (although COVID almost certainly played a small part in the rise of the trend.)
I’m escaping to Las Vegas this summer, so I may be biased, but the idea of spending thousands of dollars on fancy meals that taste like cardboard toast, an expensive venue with strict time restrictions and a list of guests seems downright anxiety-inducing – and certainly not the recipe for what will be the best day of my life. But just because I don’t want a traditional wedding ceremony with an audience and pending credit card debt (I’ve had enough of that, frankly), doesn’t mean I don’t want my day special is fun, chic and reflects both my partner and my personality and interests.
In fact, there were a few things that were non-negotiable for my future husband and I, including hiring a photographer whose aesthetic matched our own tastes and who was familiar with shooting both digital and film, a kitsch place that had touches of pink, and of course, my wedding dress. Admittedly, I found “this one” on Etsy before my fiancé even proposed to me – a little presumptuous, I know, but you shouldn’t take chances when it comes to vintage.
Unfortunately, buying a one-of-a-kind wedding dress means it’s the only one available and the possibility of a custom fit will likely be more difficult. This is precisely why I decided to have a backup plan B dress just in case my plan A didn’t work out (but please, please, please say your prayers for me that it will fit like a post-couture dream.) Since I’ve already scoured the web in search of my own perfect wedding dress, I thought I’d share a few of the hidden gems that I discovered along the way.
